What you need to know
- Kids under 3 struggle to cough things up if they get stuck in their throat. Toys that are designed to appeal to them must meet safety standards which mean they can’t be too small or have small parts that they could choke on.
- In general, a toy or part of a toy can’t be smaller than a ping-pong ball.
- If you buy a toy for a baby or toddler you think is unsafe, please take it away from the child and contact the Commerce Commission.
- To find out more about toy safety read our toy product safety fact sheet.
